Service Description

Pilots are experiencing increased stress, and most believe that mental health support is not an option due to rigorous federal regulations. This course prepares mental health providers to engage and support aviation professionals and their families. Topics include understanding the history of and most recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) medical regulations and their impact on accessing care, how to create a pilot-friendly clinical environment, and some of the specifics of aviation culture that can present barriers to wellness. Participants will also have the option to be added to the AMH Directory. Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to describe the current regulations to an aviation client. 2. Participants will be able to identify the two clinical programs regulated by the FAA for pilots affected by addiction-related disorders and psychiatric medication use. 3. Participants will be able to identify a range of subclinical resources available to aviation professionals, such as EAP programs, wellness programs, and peer support. 4. Participants will be able to identify gaps in resources currently available to aviation professionals. 5. Participants will be able to identify at least three lifestyle factors that present barriers to wellness. 6. Participants will be able to identify aspects of their current practice that may be barriers to working with pilots and their partners/families.
